Ceramics for spaces, objects & light, 2026

“Is this possible in clay?”

It’s a question we get asked often.

Luckily, that’s exactly what drives us too.

At Pravaha, we’re interested in testing what clay can do, across form, scale, surface and function.

The result? Lighting, objects and elements designed for the spaces they inhabit.

The challenge wasn’t making an octopus in clay.

It was making one work as a chandelier.

Glazed on every side

During firing, a glazed surface cannot rest directly on the kiln shelf, it would fuse to it.

So we developed a custom stilting system using Kanthal-wire contact points, allowing the sculptural forms to be fully glazed and safely fired.

Wheel-thrown.

In one piece.

Can something this heavy really hang from a ceiling?

If a ceiling can hold a swing, why not a light?

A person seated on a stool wearing the large cream Rune pendant like a lampshade

A surface built one line at a time.

The Rune texture is carved into the clay by hand, while the form is still workable.

Each line follows the profile of the pendant, turning a single wheel-thrown form into a deeply tactile surface.

Part of Pravaha’s Rune series, the texture was developed to move across objects, lighting and scale.

Making it bigger was easy

Keeping it delicate wasn’t.

At 18 inches across, the challenge was preserving the softness and movement of a flower at scale.

12 full-scale flowers.

2 made it to site.

At this scale, there was no smaller way to test it.

Translucent, but too fragile at full scale.

Stronger, while allowing the petals to stay thin.

Colour

At 1200°C, chemical reactions in the glaze determine the final colour — making multiple tests an integral part of the process.

Each trial changed something: material, thickness, form or process.

Until the flowers could hold both, the scale and delicacy.

A prehistoric world, inside a basin.

Created for the client’s daughters’ bathroom. Their brief was simple:

“We want dinosaurs.”

And dinosaurs, we delivered.

A different expression.

Hand-modelled botanical forms extend across the basin’s exterior, bringing dimension to its black-and-white surface.

The brief called for Iridescence.

So we developed it.

The reference called for a pearlescent, iridescent surface we hadn’t produced before.

We developed the process through testing, then refined the colour until the material and the brief aligned.

The palette had to be developed, not chosen.

We tested colour, clay bodies, textures and surface treatments against the references, refining the options until they worked together as one composition.
